Mangalik Dosha in Vedic Astrology: Myth, Meaning, and Remedies.

Mangalik Dosha, also known as Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha, occurs when Mars is placed in certain houses in the birth chart. It is commonly said to bring challenges in marriage, but there is much misunderstanding around it.

A person is considered Mangalik when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Lagna (ascendant), Moon, or Venus. These placements are believed to create fiery energy that can cause conflicts, delays, or disharmony in marriage if not matched properly.

However, Mangalik Dosha is not always a curse. The strength and impact depend on the overall chart. A strong Jupiter, beneficial aspects on Mars, or Mars being in its own sign or exaltation can reduce the negative effects.

There are different types and intensities of Mangalik Dosha. For example, Mars in the 8th house may cause more concerns related to longevity and marital peace, while Mars in the 7th house may cause impatience or dominance issues in relationships.

Many believe that Mangalik Dosha can be neutralized if both partners are Mangalik, balancing the fiery energy. Remedies like reciting Hanuman Chalisa, fasting on Tuesdays, visiting Navagraha temples, and performing Mangal Shanti puja are traditionally followed to reduce its effects.

It is important not to fear Mangalik Dosha blindly. A knowledgeable astrologer will analyze the chart holistically before making predictions or advising on marriage. Many successful marriages have Mangalik charts when the planetary strengths and mutual compatibility support the relationship.

Understanding Mangalik Dosha helps in making conscious decisions, balancing the Mars energy within, and using its drive for constructive purposes rather than fear.

How to Determine Good and Bad Dashas in Astrology?

In Vedic astrology, dashas (planetary periods) show the timing of events in your life. Whether a dasha is good or bad depends on:

1. Planet’s Functional Nature (Benefic/Malefic).

  • Functional benefics (lords of good houses like 1st, 5th, 9th, 10th) generally give good results in their dasha.
  • Functional malefics (lords of 6th, 8th, 12th) can give challenges during their dasha.
  • Natural benefics (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Waxing Moon) tend to give softer results.
  • Natural malefics (Saturn, Mars, Sun, Rahu, Ketu) may give harsh lessons, but if well-placed, can give strength and growth.

2️. Planet’s House Placement.

  • A planet in Kendra (1,4,7,10) or Trikona (1,5,9) often gives positive results.
  • A planet in Dusthana houses (6,8,12) may give struggles during its dasha.
  • Exalted or own sign planets tend to give better results.
  • Debilitated or combust planets may give weaker or problematic results.

3️. Planet’s Strength in the Birth Chart.

  • Check Shadbala, ashtakavarga, or dignity for the planet.
  • Strong planets give better outcomes in their dasha.
  • Weak or afflicted planets may give troubles.

4️. Relationship with the Lagna and Moon.

  • If the dasha planet is friendly to the Lagna lord and Moon, it is generally smoother.
  • If the dasha planet aspects or is with benefic planets, results improve.

5️. Aspects and Conjunctions.

  • Check which planets aspect or conjoin the dasha lord.
  • Benefic aspects can reduce malefic results.
  • Malefic aspects can reduce benefic results.

6️. Transits During Dasha.

  • Transits of Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, and Ketu during the dasha can modify results.
  • Even a good dasha can feel tough if transits are heavy, and vice versa.

7️. Antardasha and Pratyantar Dasha.

  • The sub-period (bhukti/antardasha) lord significantly impacts how the main dasha plays out.
  • For example, a good Venus dasha may give problems during the Mars antardasha if Mars is a malefic for your chart.

THE COLLECTED WORKS OF MAHATMA GANDHI.

O my mind, worship the beneficent feet of Rama. From these

feet issued forth the Ganga and was caught by Siva in his ample

lock of hair. It was therefore named Jatashankari; it came for the

good of the three worlds. Bharata treasured as a token of love

the sandals bearing the imprints of these feet. The Bhil chief would

not steer Rama’s boat without being allowed to wash those feet.

Saintly persons always worship these beneficent feet. The wife of

the sage Gautama obtained salvation by the touch of those feet.

Rama hallowed (with his feet) the Dandak forest and removed

the distress of the riskis. (Yet strange to relate) this very Rama

the lord of the three worlds ran after the golden deer. He gave the

palm of victory to the monkey Sugriva, who was afflicted by the

fear of his brother. Bibhishana, the brother of the enemy (Ravana),

got the crown of Lanka through the touch of those feet. Siva,

Sanak, Brahma, etc., also the thousand-mouthed serpent sing his

praises but, says Tulsidas, his lips utter the praise of Hanuman the

monkey.

Skanda Shasti: Defeating Darkness with Light.

“Skanda Shasti” or “Kanda Sashti” is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, also known as Skanda, Murugan, Subrahmanya, or Kartik. The festival typically falls on the sixth day (Shasti) of the bright half of the lunar month of Kartika, which usually corresponds to October or November in the Gregorian calendar. Skanda Shasti commemorates the victory of Lord Kartikeya over the demon Surapadman.

Legend of Skanda Shasti:

1.Birth of Kartikeya:

  • Devas (celestial beings) faced oppression from the demon Surapadman, who had received a boon making him virtually invincible. In response, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati decided to create Lord Kartikeya, a powerful divine being.

2. Kartikeya’s Mission:

  • Kartikeya was given the mission to defeat Surapadman and his demon associates. He was chosen for his valor, wisdom, and divine qualities.

3. Battle with Surapadman:

  • Kartikeya, riding his peacock mount, engaged in a fierce battle with Surapadman and his demon forces. The battle lasted for six days and nights.

4. Final Confrontation:

  • On the sixth day, known as Shasti, Kartikeya faced Surapadman in a decisive encounter. Despite the demon’s formidable powers, Kartikeya ultimately defeated him.

5. Transformation of Surapadman:

  • Before his demise, Surapadman transformed into a mango tree and a rooster. Kartikeya, in a magnanimous gesture, split the mango tree into two halves, turning one part into his peacock mount and the other into a rooster, which became his emblem.

6. Celebration of Victory:

  • The victory of Kartikeya over Surapadman is celebrated with great fervor during Skanda Shasti. Devotees observe fasts, perform pujas, and recite hymns to seek the blessings of Lord Kartikeya for strength, courage, and protection.

The Skanda Shasti Kavacham is a powerful hymn dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, and reciting it during the festival is believed to invoke the blessings of the deity.

Devotees celebrate Skanda Shasti with devotion, offering prayers, visiting temples dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, and participating in various rituals and processions. The festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and the power of divine intervention to protect devotees from adversity.
