Nava Shakti Peethas in Karnataka.


 Karnataka is home to a divine network of powerful Shakti Peetha temples — sacred abodes of the Goddess where her presence is deeply felt and worshipped. These nine temples are revered by devotees for their spiritual energy, cultural significance, and deep-rooted legends. Each of these temples reflects a unique form of Shakti and holds a special place in Karnataka’s spiritual geography.

1. Sringeri Sharadamba TempleChikmagalur District.

Situated in the serene town of Sringeri, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Sharadamba, a form of Saraswati. It is one of the oldest and most revered Shakti Peethas and is also the seat of Adi Shankaracharya’s first matha (monastic institution), representing knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual awakening.


2. Kolluru Mookambika Devi TempleUdupi District.

Nestled in the town of Kollur, this temple is a major pilgrimage site. The goddess here is considered a fusion of Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. According to legend, she appeared to King Veera Ballala II, and today the temple attracts pilgrims from all over South India.


3. Mysore Chamundeshwari TempleMysuru District

Perched atop Chamundi Hills, this temple honors Goddess Chamundeshwari, who is believed to have slain the demon Mahishasura. She is the fierce and protective deity of the Mysore region and is especially venerated during Dussehra.


4. Savadatti Yellamma Devi TempleBelagavi District.

Located in the historic town of Savadatti, this temple is devoted to Goddess Renuka, worshipped here as Yellamma. The temple has strong folk connections and is a center of deep faith for lakhs of devotees, especially from rural Karnataka.


5. Sigandur Chowdeshwari TempleShivamogga District.

This powerful shrine is located on the banks of the Sharavathi River in Sigandur. Goddess Chowdeshwari, the guardian of justice, is believed to protect her devotees fiercely. Stories say King Bukka Raya I had a divine encounter with the goddess here.


6. Horanadu Annapurneshwari TempleChikkamagaluru District.

Dedicated to Goddess Annapurneshwari, the nourisher and provider of food, this temple is surrounded by lush greenery and the serene beauty of the Western Ghats. Devotees believe that the Goddess once appeared to Lord Rama in this sacred space.


7. Kateelu Durgaparameshwari TempleDakshina Kannada District.

Situated on an island in the Nandini River, this temple is known for its tranquil setting and strong divine presence. Goddess Durgaparameshwari is worshipped here as a fierce mother who protects her devotees and appeared to King Veera Ballala II.


8. Badami Banashankari TempleBagalkot District.

This ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Banashankari, the forest goddess, and protector of the people. She is deeply venerated in northern Karnataka, and the temple is associated with the Chalukya dynasty.


9. Sirsi Marikamba TempleUttara Kannada District.

One of the grandest Shakti temples in Karnataka, the Sirsi Marikamba temple is renowned for its large idol and the famous Marikamba Jatre, South India’s largest fair, held every two years. The temple also features rare Kavi art-style murals.
